This arresting image depicts the horrific reality of domestic violence. It shows the symbiotic relationship of the victim and aggressor and how it is sometimes not just a matter of leaving and how hard the chain of abuse can be to break free of. The eerie addition of the lyrics to a popular children's program reinforces the psychological aspect of these abuse situations and how this aspect can be more insidious than the physical effects. The iconographic kisses relay the sometimes apologetic nature of the victim, a result of this psychological degradation.
The oil paint is applied in thick, confident painterly strokes on top of a base of metallic purple which is allowed to show through to act as a glowing outline of the objects of this painting and also to add a dark underlying emotion to the work.
